Give yourself permission to “hold down the couch”

When was the last time you “checked out” for a day?

Before yesterday, I couldn’t remember a single day when I just let time unfold on its own.

I threw on sweats, hastily dried my hair and dispensed with the make-up.

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed a glorious Sunday afternoon of movies and popcorn. I may have even caught 40 winks at some point.

We had a Skype visit with our son in London, Ontario. I spoke to my parents down in Pheonix. We made some tentative getaway plans.

Dinner was quick and easy, and enjoyed in front of more TV time.

It felt delicious.

Today being Monday morning, it’s hectic as usual. But I am well-rested, revived and raring to go. And I refuse to feel even a little bit guilty.

  1. Louise, you are supposed to have a delicious day like that on a Sunday! It’s when you hold down the couch on a MONDAY that it’s truly taking time for yourself, and when you might have to talk yourself into not feeling guilty. (But you still shouldn’t feel guilty!)

  2. You are so right Sue! ;)

I guess that says a lot about me doesn’t it? Somehow my weekends have blended into the work week, so taking a Sunday off really feels like a luxury.

I agree with Sue! I rarely get these “delicious” days off because I am in university part-time in addition to working, so my “free” time is always homework/studying time….but my goodness Louise, what are YOU doing working 7 days a week! You DESERVE to take a day off every week my friend! :-)

  4. I do deserve a day off once a week – maybe two days! I think this blog post has turned into some kind of revelation. I need to look closely at how I’m spending my time. Thanks Cheryl!
